Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday, and as always here in San Diego the weather is fantastic!  Why the NFL doesn’t listen to Chris Berman and have the game in San Diego every year is beyond me, but I guess I am biased.  So in honor of this special time of year and the ridiculous weather we are having, tonight’s libation is the Heatwave.

  • 1 ounce dark rum (Myers)
  • 0.5 ounce peach schnapps
  • 4.5 ounces pineapple juice
  • 0.25 ounce of grenadine

Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in the ingredients, being sure to leave the grenadine to last, give it a stir and serve.

Dave’s Thoughts:

  • Tastes of alcoholic pineapple juice with a hint a peach – in a good way.
  • Not much liquor in here, so this is a great afternoon in the sun sipping cocktail – it’s not going to get you plastered.
  • While our heat wave in January is a good start, I think this one is best saved for poolside in the summer.

Tastings Notes:

  • Dave’s Rating: 7/10
  • Strength: 2/10
  • Sweetness: 8/10
  • Brings back memories of sipping the drink of the day aboard a cruise ship.  That is, right before the captain drove the damn thing into a reef and sank it.
